Breed is man-made. We bred dogs for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years to do one thing like a flipping pro. Then we made them pets and expected a walk around a field to cover it.
Filled with generations of purpose and given nowhere to spend it. So it comes out as zoomies, obsession, stealing, chewing holes in your life. Sometimes literally.
Notice they're not bouncing off the walls? They spend their potential all day, every day. Your dog has the same potential, with a postcode and a sofa.
My sister's nine year old Labrador. I walk her four hours a day, the same as my hounds... and she still doesn't sleep. Because what is four hours outside to a Labrador, if none of it involves retrieving or searching?
Because it was never about tired. It's about feeling good. A dog can be exhausted and still deeply unfulfilled, and an unfulfilled dog does not switch off.

Finding things with their nose and picking them up. That's the whole job.
Frustrated version: stealing socks around the house. That's not naughtiness. That's a retriever doing the exact job they were bred for, with the only thing available.
Staring, stalking and steering moving things. Obsessively, beautifully.
Frustrated version: chasing cars. They're not chasing them, they're herding them.
Bred to find it, chase it, grab it, shake it and finish the job. They love the whole thing.
Frustrated version: holes in your garden, holes in your cushions, holes in everything.
Nothing on earth beats a trail. The nose switches on, and the rest of the world switches off.
